Guide To Sawing
From EliteWiki
Well thought i would give a shot at making a guide to sawing. Now in my opinion there are two types of sawing. One is technical sawing and two is power sawing. Technical sawers are more about positioning and timing. Power sawers focus more about speed. Technical sawing focuses on striking at the enemies weakest point. Often times they will wait until you first attempt to strike them and they will either counter it or avoid it all together then attack you when you are most likely on the ground in the process of repositioning. They are more likely to use moves such as "supermans" quite often throughout the game. When you see a sawer who is already in a superman coming torwards you dont attempt to dive at them simply avoid them then attack. Chances are you wont have enough time to gain the necessary speed to equal theirs. It is very affective to wait till the diver falls to the ground after a superman then position yourself behind them and dive at their back.
One of the most important things to avoid in really any point of soldat is becoming predictable. For instance there are three points for someone to attempt a dive at another person, low, mid and high. Certain people find one of those to be most affective and start using it as much as possible. All three of those are capable of being countered so sooner or later if the sawer is skilled they will catch on and learn to either avoid your common attack or learn to counter it. You should always have your crosshair on the enemy. For instance lets say you dive low and your enemy dives high directly above you. Most players will keep there saw straight even after they have passed the enemy. If you are low and they are directly above you, as they are passing over you move your saw in a clockwise or counter clockwise motion. Following the enemy through their dive. The same can work on top but is slightly more difficult.
Now the biggest downfall of a technical sawer is that certain maps make it more difficult to position yourself. Positioning is by far the most important part of technical sawing. I have found that being low gives you an advantage. There are two examples of this. If someone is directly above you and is falling torwards you if you jump towards them you will win probably some where around 90% of the time. Most likely because there is no downward jets nor is there such a thing as a downward jump. On top of that your feet stick out. The person on the top doesnt have many options. The one thing that i have found to be sightly affective is going prone and pointing your saw directly down. This is risky because by going prone you are giving your enemy a larger target to hit. The second example is when you dive directly at someone as they are diving at you try and dive as low as possible.
Now as for power sawers. Most power sawers focus only on speed. The only timing that comes into question is the timing of clicking the saw when you come in contact with the enemy. The most important thing to remember when power sawing is to learn the map so you can run as fast as possible on it. There are few moves to power sawing. They rarely dive or wait to counter. A couple tips i can think of is slightly before you hit your enemy jump torwards them to increase the force. This form of sawing is a little easier to learn so i suggest it for beginners. You should also point your saw slightly towards the ground. In case anyone trys to cut out your feet your saw will be pointed at the right angle.
Now as far as which style is better. Lets say there is a match between a technical sawer and a power sawer of equal skill. The technical sawer often times is focusing on doing fancy dives and tricks while the power sawer is just going directly at the enemy. I have found that a full speed superman verses a full speed run results in the power sawer winning. The problem is the technical sawer will be trying to avoid the strikes by doing backflips and such. One thing technical sawers do is wait till the last moment to do their backflip causing most people to do a dive at them instead of a full speed run only to hit the ground and then get stabbed in the back. But power sawers rarely mess with dives so they end up running directly into the technical sawer before they have time to pull off their move. The one disadvantage for the power sawer is they are quite predictable.
I recommend trying to master both forms of sawing so you can use them in the situation that best applys to that style. I myself tend to use the style of technical but i use power tricks all the time. For instance if i find myself standing at the bottom of a hill and someone runs over the top down towards me i will use a power run because that situation favors the runner on the bottom. I am most certainly not the best sawer but i tried to include everything that i use in order to win. I dont quite understand it but some people are just gifted sawers. There are a few people that come to mind and everytime i do a run at them its like hitting a brickwall. Dont expect to become a great sawer over night. Especially if your avoiding the best sawers around. You dont learn anything by winning only by losing. Well thanks for reading my guide and dont be afraid to point out something i might have left out.
